  1. I hooked in because of your excellent coverage and explanations of earthquakes. More on earthquakes, and your stats will stay high (I think)

  2. Congrats, Callan!

You should see my little blog’s statistics since my dad and I started doing our interview series. I peaked at 10,000 visitors per day for a few days…. crazy! Still have a few thousand per day. Used to have between 100-200 per day.

All the visitors are overwhelming, actually. I look forward to posting about rocks again in a week or two. Maybe some of my new “nuclear dad” followers will stay to hear a little about rocks.

I have to say, though, this is a terrible way to increase one’s blog traffic. I feel good that my father and I can provide some good information, but I wish the nuclear disaster had never happened.

  3. It is a slightly morbid thought that you are gaining more visitors because some country somewhere is having a bad time of it. However, as Evelyn’s experience especially shows, it is at times like these when giving people access to good information is more important than ever. I’m proud to be part of a community that is helping to provide it.

  4. I visit your site when I am able but when a big geologic event happens I prefer to read about it from those in the know. You do a nice job of explaining the concepts and making them informative while still accessible.

  5. My observations don’t explain why your readership increased 10 fold after the earthquake, but in my opinion, your earthquake posts were the best you have done. It’s not that I don’t like rocks, but really, how many posts about rocks do you expect me to read? Okay, so maybe I don’t really like rocks that much. But the earthquake posts, especially in combination with your tweets, were exactly what I needed to figure out what was happening. You led me to the best graphics and data I have seen, and your explanations were perfect. I thank you, and my 11 year old son thanks you; he learned a lot from the graphics, and thought they were cool (all the photos of rocks, not so much).
