Rockies stratigraphic column checklist

I just drew up a little checklist for the different formations my Rockies students will be seeing next starting next week out in Montana:

The original black and white images (two columns on two pages) come from Self-Guided Field Trips Near Bozeman (1982), by Stephan G. Custer, Donald L. Smith, Molly Walker, and 1982’s crop of geology graduate students at Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana. This stratigraphic column, which includes summary descriptions of each unit is handout #1 for my Rockies students. This afternoon, I used Photoshop to merge the two columns into one and color them (it?) and add a few annotations and add the check-marks for the strata we focus on in my course. I’m pleased with the result.

I like how tall it is.

  1. Great job on the facelift, and thanks for sharing. Strat columns are such great visualization tools; I always get carried away adding columns of tectonics, climate, palaeontology, etc. If you’ve never played with TSCreator, I bet you could add even more Awesome to this without much trouble.
