Great pics and posts!! These are the from the Castner Fm. and are exmples of the stromatolites that I was talking about, except these samples have undergone deformation. Unfortunately the outcrop that these came are on military property so these two samples are the only ones I’ve ever seen deformed…
YEARS ago I asked my prof. about these samples (the one in the display case to be exact) and I was told both samples were of differential weathering of the BGA and sediment of the stromatolites from the Castner but they had undergone deformation…but these are VERY different from the stromatolites I’ve seen in the formation especially the thickness of the layers…Since these are from the portion of the Castner that is on military property I’ve only been able to see these two samples, but like most things in the Castner I think these samples are open to multiple interpretations!
ha…..differential weathering was the first thing I noticed when I saw it, pretty cool looking.
