5-year blogiversary

Half a decade ago today, I wrote my first blog post.

A lot’s happened since then. Blogging is fun, and it’s brought me a lot of great opportunities and new friendships.

Any thoughts on the material I’ve produced since that initial foray? Want more of something or less of something?

Thanks for reading…

  1. Love the blog.
I only read on the ipad, so some features are not available. Less of those :).
I enjoyed the book review videos.
My favorite things are post devoted to interpreting outcrops.
Have you considered doing a field week / weekend for ameteurs, maybe outside of Moab ?

    • I run a field course each summer in Montana; you’re welcome to sign up for that! Some of the folks who sign up for it are amateurs; some aren’t. There are no hard pre-requisites, though.
I don’t know too much about Moab area, but I would love to learn more.

      • Well i suggest Moab as its the town serving arches and canyonlands. The Biking scene at start of the Everest IMAX was filmed in Moab.

As a married working father of a 9year old, a traditional field seminar is probably outside of my possibilities. A 4 day weekend is totally doable though.

  2. You do a great job making tough geologic concepts more understandable by means of photos and diagrams. Your photos are great, and I’ve learned a lot through the blog.

    Thanks for sharing.

  3. For years I’ve been reading your blog daily because 1) it’s interesting; 2) you explain things very clearly; 3) the photos are absolutely fantastic; 4) the annotated photos help us see things through the eyes of a geologist; 5) due to your blog I now look at my surroundings with a better understanding about how they got that way; 6) you make your blog lively by including snippets of info about your home, family, and travels; and 7) see #1 again. Thanks, Callan, and please continue this blog for a long time.
