Note the substantial pebbles that have been lifted up by the growth of these things – they’re powerful little crystals.

  1. I believe the Norwegian word telehiv (type of frost heave) summarizes this nicely (though typically thought of at larger scales). And yes, ice is very strong when C-axis is aligned coherently.
