Friday fold: Floor paver in the Atlanta airport

On my way back to Virginia from Hawaii, I had a three hour layover in the Atlanta airport. There, I spotted this charismatic stone paver on on the terminal floor. It showed folds, and so I snapped a photo, but it also shows plenty more…

An annotated copy:

Happy Friday, all!

  1. There’s a lot going on in this rock; it would be nice to see the outcrop it came from (and a couple thin sections). In southern Colorado, some of the metamorphic rocks of the “Idaho Springs Fm.” contain metamorphosed volcanic clasts–another possibility for the things you interpret as andalusite porphyroblasts. In any case, those objects might be a clue to defining “bedding”.
